State Representative Yvonne Davis (District 111) secured $3 million from the Texas Historical Commission during the 89th Legislative session for the African American Museum of Dallas. The $3 million grant was made available to the African American Museum of Dallas as a result of an amendment that was added to the State budget by Representative Davis.
This grant will allow the African American Museum of Dallas to continue to grow and develop long-term planning/strategies. The funds are intended as a follow-up to the programs and previous funds secured by Representative Davis during the 87th legislative session. In partnership with the African American Education and History Program, those funds would be used to develop a historical and cultural board through virtual interaction.
Representative Davis stated, “I am extremely happy to secure this funding for the African American Museum, especially with the many attempts to negate and/or re rewrite history and the many contributions of our leaders, past and present. I view these funds as a second legislative success to preserve history! As the Representative for Texas House District 111, it is my vision and hope that these funds will be realized as our second effort to partner with our community institutions and secure funding resources as a catalyst to capture, preserve, and link the past to the present as it relates to African American history in Dallas and across the nation. This will be a win for the community!”
